Rescinding Roe… Biblical Response! 0.5.
Hello guys! How’s it hanging at your end? Still, on rescinding/overturning Roe from a biblical viewpoint, let’s continue where we left off. It is salient to reiterate that this article addresses Roe v. Wade based off the tenets of Scripture, not based upon feelings, emotions, society or whatnot. Let’s get right to it.
So we left off giving a few scriptural references to belabour the asseveration that goes, “every person deserves honour from us, women inclusive”.
Continuance of Rescinding Roe
So far, we’ve seen that Jesus honoured women and so must we, even in our current dispensation. In the words of David Platt, “I have thought often in these recent weeks of the woman whose physical life might be in danger and is walking through medical complications with pregnancy but also of the woman who for a variety of social, relational or economic reasons feel like she cannot care well for her child and sees abortion as her only hope and she’s just lost hope in some settings, and she’s hurting and seeing so many, specifically Christians, happy. God help us to honour her and every woman in every way that God honours them, as well as would have us honour them.
Folks, we do not need to choose between honouring women or babies as our current culture seems to imply we must. Instead, we must seek to honour women, children, men, as well as people who disagree with us, on this issue inclusively. Let’s see ! Peter 2:17.
17 Honour all men. Love the brotherhood. Fear God. Honour the emperor.
It’s rather interesting that Peter in that Scripture said, “honour the emperor”, Note that the emperor was quite oppressive to Christians in that dispensation. So that Scripture could be interpreted, honour everyone, your oppressors inclusive, as well as people who disagree with you. God help us to honour everyone as we are ought; in our language, in the way we post, in our words, in our relationships not to cancel our neighbours but to love them the way Scripture says to.
Every single person deserves to be honoured.
Fourth asseveration as to Rescinding Roe:
Sex is Designed by God Exclusively for and between a Man and a Woman within the Confines of Marriage.
This is on a different but definitely related note. It’s quite evident that in our dispensation, the vast majority of women seeking abortion are unmarried. This is a reality that beckons us to share and leave out God’s good design and clear instruction in and through all our lives to flee and abstain from sexual immorality. Let’s see two scriptural references as to this.
1 Corinthians 6:18
18 Flee fornication. Every sin that a man doeth is without the body; but he that committeth fornication sinneth against his own body.
1 Thessalonians 4:3
3 For this is the will of God, even your sanctification, that ye should abstain from fornication:
It is apparent that we’ve not been living by the tenets of Scripture with respect to this, as part of the consequence of the hookup culture and sexual immorality is the death of countless children in the womb of several mothers. We mustn’t buy the lie that sexual fulfilment is or can be found outside the confines of marriage. When we go outside of God’s design, it costs us and others in ways beyond what we might imagine. We’ve got to trust God and adhere to his instructions, even as to this. God help us!
Fifth asseveration as to Rescinding Roe:
God Gives Government for the Good of All and the Legislation of Morality.
It is a travesty that the vast majority of Christians have bought the lie that goes, “just as it is not okay to have an abortion, it is not okay to take a person’s right to choose from them. But as we have seen from Scripture, if a person’s womb contains a life that is known, loved and formed by God, then apart from those rare situations that physically endanger another, we don’t have the right to choose to harm this other person in the womb. Let’s see Romans 13:1-4
13 Let every soul be subject unto the higher powers. For there is no power but of God: the powers that be are ordained of God.
2 Whosoever therefore resisteth the power, resisteth the ordinance of God: and they that resist shall receive to themselves damnation.
3 For rulers are not a terror to good works, but to the evil. Wilt thou then not be afraid of the power? do that which is good, and thou shalt have praise of the same:
4 For he is the minister of God to thee for good. But if thou do that which is evil, be afraid; for he beareth not the sword in vain: for he is the minister of God, a revenger to execute wrath upon him that doeth evil.
It is fairly obvious how God’s definition of personhood is critical to this issue. We know based off human history that whenever we choose to elevate our definition of personhood over that of God, it always leads to justifying all sorts of human evil. There are a myriad of examples. Totally countless.
